Dana White: Liddell needs two wins for a title shot

Date Added: February 13, 2008 10:48:22 PM
Author: Brian Robertson

Chuck Liddell will not get an immediate shot back at the title if he dispatches of Keith Jardine according to Dana White. White told Brawl Sports :

“Chuck would have to win one more fight. I think Chuck has to win two fights in a row and then, yeah, he’s back in the mix again. He got knocked out in a minute 30 in the first round (in his last fight). No matter how great he is, I’d like to see him win a couple of fights and then come back and fight for the title again.“

This leaves me wondering who he has to fight to get the title shot. Rumors have again been flying about a possible showdown with former pride Middleweight champion Wanderlei Silva and with Shogun Rua’s recent addition to the UFC one would have to wonder about a possible match up against Liddell also.

The problem is Liddell had previously cleaned out the Light Heavyweight division in the UFC and was left with no real apparent challengers. If the Silva fight fails to materialize again we might be left with a LIddell vs Ortiz 3 or even a Liddell vs Evans for the number one contender status.

None of these fights are certain to be considered “Main Event” material except for the possibility of Evans, but only if he quickly and decisively defeats Ortiz in their upcoming match.
