Alongside fighting John also conducted other hobbies, which included BMX trick biking. Given his nickname -The Natural- for his ability to quickly learn and master trades. At the same time John was a becoming a seasoned fighter, he also managed to win the Nationals in trick biking two years in a row. John got his big break after wining a four-man tournament in Hawaii, which earned him a ticket into The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Only nineteen years of age and still learning John did not turn down the opportunity. He was matched up with legendary Pat Miletich who had a wealth of experience. John put up a great fight but would wind up getting caught in a submission late in the second round.
