August 23, 2008 (Fresno, Ca)- The continuing theme of August heat was in full swing as thousands of local Fresno fans poured into Woodward Park’s Rotary Amphitheatre for Cage Combat’s Rumble in the Park. A nine fight card was set to take place with four fights scheduled for three, five minute rounds, and the remainder of the fights set for three, three minute rounds. The mega event was sure to get the media coverage it deserved as coverage was being provided by ESPN, Sherdog, and yours truly at mmacalifornia.net. If that wasn’t enough, Fresno UFC hero Josh Koscheck showed up to rally support and UFC legends Ken Shamrock and Chuck Liddell made their presence known at this stellar event. I will also make mention that the ring girls were among the best looking to date. While sitting cageside with Tapout legend Gilbert “El Nino” Melendez, he made me promise to give mention to the ring girls, so who am I to oppose “El Nino”?

Edwin Dewees, who last competed on the Roy Englebrecht Promotions event sponsored by Affliction on July 19 in Anaheim, has tested positive for Nandrolone. His test level was finalized at 499 ng/mL. Independent tests were conducted by Quest Diagnostics for the "A" Sample and Laboratoire De Controle Du Dopage for the "B" Sample. He has been suspended for one year retroactive to the conclusion of the bout and fined $2,500.
Reigning Elite XC World Heavyweight Champion Antonio Silva Jr., who last competed on July 26 in Stockton, has tested positive for Boldenone. Independent tests were conducted by Quest Diagnostics for the "A" Sample and Laboratoire De Controle Du Dopage for the "B" Sample. He has been suspended for one year retroactive to the conclusion of the bout and fined $2,500.
William "Yobie" Jacobsen, who last competed on August 15 in Friant for Elite XC, failed to take his scheduled test for drugs of abuse. He has been suspended indefinitely.

LEMOORE, CA — It’s been eight months since Shawn Bias has stepped into the ring.
The Oroville mixed martial artists as been recovering from injuries sustained in a struggle with police officers in his hometown.
Bias (12-6) allegedly ran from officers outside an apartment complex in Oroville at about 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20. Oroville police were called to investigate a disturbance and upon making contact with the 22-year-old, the former PFC Featherweight Champion reportedly ran and ignored orders from police to stop or be shot by a taser.

Visalia Convention Center-- Friday August 15th saw some of California’s MMA talent battle it out in the cage where victory is sweet, and defeat is sour. The 10 fight MMA card was in full force despite the 100 degree plus weather, showing that valley fight fans were also up to the challenge and came to see a good show. As an added bonus, PureCombat announced that there would be a $1,000 given away to the fighter that pulled off the best move of the night. The die was cast, and fate would certainly be tempted. The first seven fights consisted of three, three minute rounds. The last three bouts were three five minute round fights. The fight card did see a couple of minor changes when fans learned that Lodune Sincaid would not be fighting in his scheduled bout with Emanuel Newton. He was replaced by BJ Lacy for the heavyweight matchup. The second change was the last minute replacement of Acosta with Kawika Morton for a fight matchup against Scott Lighty. Even with the unexpected changes in the lineup, the fights were sure to be action-packed. The following recaps are of the fights in the order that they played out throughout the evening:
