IFL drops Whitehead and Rothwell from Grand Prix

Date Added: February 13, 2008 11:21:12 PM
Author: Brian Robertson

BloodyElbow is reported yesterday that the IFL has chosen to drop “Big” Ben Rothwell and “Iron” Mike Whitehead from their Grand Prix due to contactual disagreements.

Apparently the IFL is worried about having two guys who could win their belts not be under contract after the show. This is a bold and stupid move by the fledgeling organization. It takes it top heavyweight and one of its top Light heavyweights out of contention. This does show that they are serious about retaining athletes but also kills two of their biggest draws to the crowd.

Rothwell is probably their best known homegrown star, and while according to the article he has a verbal agreement in place for a contract extension he was still removed from the tournament.
