Silva vs Liddell: What happens now?

Date Added: February 13, 2008 10:31:10 PM
Author: Brian Robertson

In an article posted today by MMAWeekly , Wanderlei Silva responded about what has turned into a mini soap opera of late.

In his response Silva stated:

“I never said that I wouldn’t fight Chuck. I’ve wanted this fight for a long time”

and continued

“I received a contract with two options, I could fight in September or November. I have chosed to make this fight in November. I was the first to want this fight, but they kept avoiding this fight. Now there’s a lot of people saying that I have  ducked Chuck. This is not true”

This leaves us fans wondering just what is true about this whole ordeal.  We have on one side Chuck Liddell saying he is ready to fight and ready to go anytime and anywhere , we also have Wanderlei Silva saying he is ready and willing in November.

This brings up a question of: If both fighters say they are ready, and will fight at any time, why isn’t it happening?

Dana White says the fight is unlikely to happen now and I for one would like to know why. Is it because Silva turned down the September date? and now it forced a major change to Whites plans for that card?

If this fight were to take place, it would by far be the largest selling PPV the UFC has ever had, and is sure to sell out any arena they put it in. This fight just makes sense, for the fans and for the money it would bring the UFC.

The only thing we can hope for is that since both fighters are adamant about wanting to fight; that the UFC can come to its senses and get this fight signed, scheduled and delivered.
