In case anyone hasn't heard Evan Tanner was found dead this week in the desert. The UFC had this info posted in a press release:
Tanner, on a camping trip in the Palo Verde mountain area, was found by an Imperial County Sheriff’s Department Deputy on Monday. The cause of death is not known at this time. He had not answered friends’ text messages since last Wednesday, and was officially reported missing on Friday.
Evan Tanner was a special guy to a lot of us that cover the sport and to a lot of fans. He let us in on his thoughts on life and how he was living it. At times he blogged about his drinking problems and his desire to quit, what made him our favorite was that he was just another guy, admitting his mistakes and letting us in on them.
Evan was inspired to stop drinking, he decided on a time and did it. He also wanted to get back into the UFC and he made his return.
He is a former champion, and a great athlete, but what stands out most is that he was a guy that seemed to enjoy life and its ups and downs.
