Tuesday Takedown: News Roundup

MMAJunkie gives us the scoop on Affliction's total live gate numbers, total payroll and a possible show in November.

I hope the next show goes a lot better than this past weekend, and a lot of the problems they had are fixable and were to be expected. Their announcing team will start to mesh a lot better with more shows together and their production can clearly be fixed with a few adjustments.

Also provided is an interesting note that affliction actually out drew two of the three UFC events at the Honda Center so far.

Banned: 14,832 tickets (11,242 paid) for a $2,085,510 gate
UFC 76: 13,770 tickets (11,817 paid) for a $1,985,000 gate
UFC 63: 12,604 tickets (9,343 paid) for a $1,582,370 gate
UFC 59: 13,814 tickets (13,060 paid) for a $2,191,450 gate

This definitely shows promise for the young promotion, and Fightlinker sees this as a positive in another way saying:

Hey, did you know that “Affliction: Banned draws 14,832 for $2.1 million gate”??? Yeah, it’s true! While looking at the retarded amount of money Affliction blew on their lineup might have made you a bit down thinking about their future prospects, this news certainly gives a person hope that there’ll be a few more Affliction events (and by extension, free UFC counter-programming events).

ThaRealness lets us know that Anthony Johnson's manager Ken Pavia will be appealing his loss to Kevin Burns at the recent UFC: Silva vs Irvin

This fight wouldn't have turned out as a loss for Johnson had he not flopped to floor in the manner he did. I understand it and I can't say that 9 out of 10 people wouldnt have done the same with that nasty poke, but it definitely hurt his chances of a disqualification and winning an appeal.

Sherdog shares with us the info that Nick "The Goat" Thompson gets a title fight this weekend vs Jake Shields for EliteXC on CBS then is set to take the Bar Exam on Monday. Just wanted to wish good luck to Nick.
